Well Hey friends....the DECK IS DOWN. Thanks to all for the advice along the way. Hey E.E. I did cripple the center stringer and bury a 28 gal poly tank down there. Anyone who followed my "save money?" post I bailed on that and coated the marine ply with epoxy all around and used 5200 and stainless screws to fasten it.

On the seam to the hull (and the but joints) as of now I have one 4" tape coat covered with a 6" tape coat (epoxy). I plan on covering the whole deck with cloth one final time (covering joints). This is enough right?? I cant tell you how good it feels to not be looking at stringers anymore.

hermit

project:
22' skiff-shelled....coming back to life!
transom/stringers/deck in :)
..on 10th gallon of epoxy :(

Hermit, I'm glad to here that the cripple joint worked for you. I've got one more stringer before I get to try the cripple joint in mine. Did you have any pics? I'm curious to see what it looked like before the deck went on.

Congratulations! There IS light at the end of the tunnel.

Hermit, What kind of time frame did you spend on your rebuild so far?

i'd use biaxial glass tape.. one layer of this equals many many layers of regular glass..

should always go wide ( 6 in ) first than narrow ( 4 in ) o top.. as per to epoxy putty an sand..

the other way ,, you'll capture a rough edge hidden an visable underneath..

EE,
I do have some pix I will work on getting them together now that there is something to show. I guess if you go back to when I was shoveling Ice out of the hull after I cut off the original deck its been about 6 months. But I only really work on it about 10 hrs a week (got another boat that works!).

Hey crab, I think I am going to ad one more tape coat and then run the final floor cloth up and over everything!

Re: deck to hull sides

I'm doing a similar project and have bought everything except my cloth and tape. The problem is, it seems most cloth sold on places like westmarine is $340 for a 50"x20yd roll. I don't need near that much. I have 1 60"x24" section to glass, and another jigsaw piece that if square would be 18"x30" at most. Can anybody help? This is for replacing pieces of the sole.
Also what is the difference between Epoxy resin and poly resin that I keep reading about. I bought WS 105 resin and 206 hardener which I plan to use to coat the wood and to work the cloth/tape. Am I missing somthing?
Thanks guys.
