Your comment about the Chap deadrise is half right.

The newer pickle fork style Sunesta hull has a 20 degree deadrise, but the construction is such that the bow is just as beamy as the stern.

However, the older pre-2008 hull is 16 degrees, and the bow is indeed as beamy as the stern, too.

Here is a sample overhead deck shot of older hull, newer hull, and typical bow rider.

... that model is a good example of a modified bow rider, but it?s not really a ?deck boat?. ...

The term generally used to describe this hybrid is "sportdeck." I really like mine (2007 Azure AZ220 - Zip Code ).

Link that says 'Zip Code' is the iBoats write-up of the AZ220. You may need to put a ZIP in before it will show, maybe not.

Thanks for the clarification Todd, I was unaware that the older model Sunesta was closer to the Deck Boat design. Doyall's statement is correct (Thanks!) and I think the newer Sunesta model falls in the Sportdeck design category.

I attached a deck layout of a Hurricane SD237 for comparison. This model has a 12.5 degree deadrise and you can see that the full width of the beam extends quite far towards the bow. The curvature of the front seating area as it approaches the bow is minimal (kinda ala Pontoon boat). The seat backs on both the port and starboard side are pretty much parallel until it comes up to the front deck. I think a couple advantages of Sportdecks is that you get a similar layout as a Deck Boat (with a bit more room than a Bowrider) and with a higher degree deadrise you have the ability to handle choppier water, or coastal ocean waters better, especially in the under 21 foot models. What waters you plan to use the boat on might have an influence in deciding.

I think we're pretty much on the same page.
