decode hin number

hi everyone new to the forum and new to boat i have a 18 foot thundercraft with a 4.3 and omc 800 stern drive i would like to know the year and maybe the model of the boat the last 4 hin numbers are 0683 does that mean its a 1983 and can i find out the model with the hin number any help would be great thx

The HIN format started in 1972 but did not become universally standardized until 1984. Your last 4 digits would indicate june 1983.
