I have a 1996 90hp johnson and spray deep crep in the engine and it was running a 700 RPM at Idle. I let the motor sit for 15-20 minutes and started it back up and it run about 700 RPM for about a minute and then sped up to about 1200 RPM and I had to turn the idle screw back down to 700 RPM. is this normal?

Re: deep creep question

From my experience in automotive whenever you clean out the throttle body (air intake) with throttle body cleaner or deep creep, your engine will rev higher. What you need to do is take the boat out for a run to clean out the carbon. When you come back your engine should be idling normally. If not, then there's a problem. With cars it's the same thing. You have to take the car out for a drive after you clean the throttle body, then after the drive the car will idle properly.

I'd give it some time to clean things up and exhaust the residue before I started jumping to conclusions. You aren't going to hurt anything with it so you don't have to worry about that.

What you probably don't know now, is whether or not the idle change is temporary or the result of previous problems where the idle was actually set up (by someone else) to get the engine to run at 700 and now that you are removing the problems the engine goes back to running where it was before.

Also I would suggest you keep it in the fuel with an abnormally high level for the time being....like half a can to 10 gallons of gas. Worked for me in 2 engines.
