Deep Cycle Starter Battery?

Hello,
I have been using a "deep cycle marine" (550cold crank, 700 marine crank) battery as my starter battery for my 89 force 35.

It has started my motor without issue for 2 years. It is now struggling to turn it over.

I am guessing that I need a new battery. On my way to pick up a new one.

Should I be using a deep cycle marine battery as the battery that I connect to the starter / motor?

Should I switch to a "starter battery"?

I use a deep cycle marine for my trolling motor and other electric options.

I think that my motor sends a charge back to the battery as it is running. What type of battery handles this the best?

Thanks

A vented marine battery. My deep cycle battery sat for 11 months without me charging it and it was still mostly charged. Only took about an hour on 6 amp charger to be near full.

A starting battery for short durations of high amperage draw, as in when starting an engine.
These batteries last longest when they stay 80% charged or more.

A DEEP CYCLE for sustained low amperage draw, as when running a trolling motor, stereo, and lighting.
These batteries are better suited to be drawn down as low as 10% before being charged.

Switch to a starter battery. The Deep Cycle battery does not give you the same starting current and, as your engine gets older, you will need it. If you are using a trolling motor, buy a separat Deep Cycle battery for it.

Run two batteries. One for starting and the second for trolling. You need to installl a switch if one goes dead.
And if you want to get fancy you can install a battery isolator and charge both and not drain them .J
