Hi Deerdog.

I just read your mail mentioning Orlando Clipper. I am going to look at one here in Denmark, expecting to buy it. The owner says it is a 17 ". Did they build 17" ? How old are theese boats. Is there anywhere i can see photos or other material about it. What is the weight. Do you know which HP they are rated for ? Is this boat a tripple hull, from the front it looks as an ordinary V-bottom, but the owner says the same as you mentioned about tripplehull in the back.

I have a 40Hp 1989 Evinrude ( former the 48 model ) Will it move it ?

Re: Deerdog, concerning clipper boat

Hi GDane

Sorry it took me so long to get back but have been away on business.

Obviously they were made in Orlando Florida from the late 60's to early 70's. They were pretty popular in the southeast. Ours may have been 17 foot - I honestly dont remember but know it was around 16-17 foot.

Ours had a 70 Chrysler on it and it worked great. Believe ours could go up to an 85 for that length.

The boat itself was very light. it was a trihull with walkthrough windshield and those high bars around the front end of the boat. There was no carpet - just non skid fiberglass flooring. YOu could put two 6 gallon fuel tanks plus the battery under the trough in the back end of the boat. The steering was cables. I wish I had a pic of it here but do not. We also have a pic of that boat pulling 7 skiers (serious - they were all kids with only two on slaloms).

The evinrude you have will push it but in my opinion you may want to look at somethin larger - say a 70 to 80 hp.

Orlando Clipper did make different lengths of that same type of boat - I believe up to 21 foot. My dad sure was proud of this thing when he bought it in the spring of 1970 and it was one of the prettiest on the lake back then. As we got older and larger (and I was skiing competitively then) the boat wasnt really conducive to practivce sessions so we Dad sold it and got a larger boat. it is still on the lake and looks good. The motor has been rebuilt once by the new owner but he is still happy with it.

It was a super combination of a light durable boat and a good dependable motor (for that day).

Good luck to you and I hope this has helped.

Deerdog
