Delco starter

I am having starter problems and the other day I noticed the starter on my '63 75 hp Johnny (model v4a-15e)said Delco on the side of it. Does that mean that this should be available at the auto parts store or was it made specifically for marine outboards? I still need to check my connections to make sure they are all clean and in good shape but since I have already replaced the battery and I still hear the same single click from the selanoid. I am thinking starter.

Howdy, WS.<br /><br />This symptom is most often a result of a failing electrical connection in the starter high-current circuit.<br /><br />Measure the voltage from the starter hot terminal to the block when the starter solenoid pulls in. If it is about 12V and the starter does not turn, you have a failed starter.<br /><br />If it is very low or zero, measure the voltage from the solenoid input terminal to the block. It should measure 12V until the solenoid is activated, then drop to arount 9-10V. If it stays at 12V you may have a bad solenoid. If it drops to very low you have a bad cable or connection.<br /><br />Good luck.

You can get most Johnson Parts at your local NAPA auto parts store. NAPA carries, or can get,alot of the Johnson parts.Such as points,coils,gaskets,solenoids,starters,voltage regulators,brushes, etc.
