Re: Delete this Junk!

I would like to add that Champion is the leading manufacturer of igniters for jet engines also.. Far from any kind of junk. I would argue that they are the best you can buy for most applications. That is my opinion. Tim

Yea Tim, I agree....they ain't the best for all..
However, for Johnrude yes,....for briggs, Tec., Kohler....Yes. I don't know where Johnrude stands but Briggs is Champion's Largest customer...as of last week, 240,000 plugs a DAY.
My Father has run/owned an auto/marine/lawn and power equipment shop for over 50 years...He's now 74 and is the longest standing dealer with Briggs, Tec., AND Kohler. I asked him last night about the problems he's had over the years with champion plugs...told him about a forum I'm on and the topic at hand. He laughed and said "they still haven't figured out how to install a plug".
In 50+ years, the only issue he remembers is finding a cracked ceramic on a champ out of the box...also said he remembered one that came in with just the threaded portion of the plug in the head...the internal part was gone.
He did say "they ain't worth a darn in any GM product", but then GM doesn't call for champs....
We go through anywhere from 400-600 RJ19LM plugs a week over the counter and in the shop. we just don't see the problems you speak of...

Monoshock,
Don't let it bother you...just post your opinions and take the heat like the rest of us.

If it makes you feel better AC (LA 47)plugs were in my experimental airplane and they worked fine. However, I changed to Champions later and they did ok too. I also flew behind NGKs in my Kawasaki powered ultralight plane but those made me pucker. I changed them often. Flying behind a plug that doesn't give reliable service puts a new meaning on pucker factor!

There's more...Two of my automobiles have ACs and the other Bosch...no problems. All five of my outboards have Champions and one (Merc/Mariner)was switched from NGKs to Champs. NGKs would just quit sparking in under 50hrs...and this was a new motor and on random cyls. The system checked out A1. After this happened three times in under 100 hrs I changed to the matching Champs. Now they last until I do regular maintenance at 200-300hrs.
I've had more problems with NGK in all types of motors than any other plug and feel the same way about them you do on Champs. I can't figure out why my experience is different from others but it is.

respectfully disagree, Tim...this is my first reading of the thread, and what's left of it seems a pretty good discussion...wouldn't mind knowing about monoshock's experience though...obviously it's not favorable

The title used to be, "Champion plugs-No thanks"
Appears as though Monoshock had a few come apart somehow, and decided they were junk for any application......???????

Basically, He had a couple of plugs that were probably broken during instalation? and they happen to be champion.. I know for sure that he could never convince anybody that champion plugs are no good!, Tim
