Howdy,

If you don't want to use the oil that OMC or Mercruiser suggests, you can use just about anything.
http://www.mercurymarine.com/servic...ntenance/faqs/mercruiser/?category=fuel#MCOil

If you do a search on iBoats, you'll find that EVERY type of oil has been used successfully.

Filters don't know the difference!

As an aside, Chevron DELO is not only for Diesels. It also meets gasoline engine requirements too (SL/SJ, SG1, SH1)

From: http://shorelinefuel.com/msds/delooil_msds.pdf

Chevron Delo 400 oils meet:
? API Service Categories
? CI-4, CH-4, CG-4, CF-4 (SAE 10W-30)
? CF, CD1, SG1, SH1
? SL (SAE 10W-30, 20, 30, 40, 50),
__ SJ (SAE 10W-30)
? CE1 (SAE 30)

There are so many oil threads here, (and on other forums) you wouldn't live long enough to read them all but take it from me, they all say The same thing I say in my sig! (excluding my disclaimer:rolleyes:)

"Here's what I use and I've never had a problem"

Knock yourself out!!
