Democrats urge ABC to withdraw 9/11 movie

Personally, I would prefer to see only truths about this horrific event, but to argue that this is coming out in a timely manner to slam the Dems before the election is absurd. Besides, I don't remember republicans trying to stop Michael Moore from airing his lies before the last election.

Also, in a statement released Thursday afternoon in apparent response to the growing uproar, ABC said, "No one has seen the final version of the film, because the editing process is not yet complete, so criticisms of film specifics are premature and irresponsible."

This is plastered all over the news today. Is there reason for concern or are the Dems upset that reality bites.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Amid an election-year debate over who can best defend America, U.S. congressional Democrats urged ABC on Thursday to cancel a TV miniseries about the September 11 attacks that is critical of former Democratic President Bill Clinton and his top aides.

Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada denounced the five-hour television movie, set to air in two parts on Sunday and Monday nights, as "a work of fiction."

Reid and other leading Senate Democrats wrote to Robert Iger, president and CEO of ABC's corporate parent, the Walt Disney Co., urging him to "cancel this factually inaccurate and deeply misguided program."

Chronicling events leading to the September 11 attacks, the movie suggests the Clinton administration was too distracted by the Monica Lewinsky sex scandal to deal properly with the gathering threat posed by Islamic militants.

Don't forget they're the party that is worried about freedom of speech and censorship and rights being taken away by this administration . . . Hey, where's the ACLU? Shouldn't they be defending ABC's right to air this?

There is absolutely no question that the left has limited more freedoms than the right. This is a perfect example.

If it had Michael Moore's name in the credits, no democrat would have objected.

Maybe there is no reason for concern at all. Maybe this whole issue and media frenzie has been staged by the Dems to prevent any proof that any administration other than the Bush administration is at fault.

If it includes fabrications or distortions of truth I agree with the Dems.

I thought the Michael Moore film was full of both and I objected to that one too.

The producers still have time to make it a factual documentary. If the facts embarrass the Dems, so be it, but if it is a political smear (like the Moore film) it shouldn't be allowed.

The world is full of people with 20-20 hindsight who don't have to make the hard decisions that sometimes turn out to be wrong. Every decision maker is sometimes wrong. That makes them neither idiots nor fools, it merely proves they are human. Presidents Bush, Clinton and Bush are merely human. If they never made errors they are not making decisions.

Funny, I thought ABC would have immediately agreed to the democrats demands and admitted their mistake.

It has NOT been billed as a documentary, they have billed it as a movie but I can see why it might have them in a tizzy.

Just the facts Jack, thats all anybody really wants even if it is a movie. Why alter the facts when the reality is already better than fiction.

I agree, it has altered facts, and I for one will not be watching it! Besides 5 hours (and I'll bet thats without commercials) is just to much time to waist in front of the one eyed baby sitter!

It is about ratings & market share......
Cashing in, as it were.....
I, for one, won't waste my time watching it........
If someone is so weak minded as to have their vote swayed by a TV program, I will fly the flag at half mast on 9/11....
Upside down!
Because we are in trouble!
As far as the timing, Hogwash!
9/11 is on 9/11....
The 2nd Tuesday of November is just that as well.......JK

No Haut, its about intimidation and desparation. The government isn't suppose to threaten the free press. Heck there are some here who thought that a movie about killing our president bush would stimulate conversation. I guess the dems don't like to be stimulated.

To think that either party is to blame for 9/11 is absurd. Yeah, hindsight says we should have seen it coming but get real folks. 9/11 fell on W watch but we can not lay this one on him.

Were there oversights, yes no question as there were before Pearl Harbor, but the Pres. fault BS. That includes all of them.

Just remember this is a MOVIE, as was Moore's although he tried to call it a documentary. Likewise the Di Vince Code was a movie and Leonardo's last supper was a figment of his mind not evidence of an event.

Censureship is out, dems need to get off of it on this one. I would hope ABC would base it on facts not what someone dreamed up.

This time I am with the right saying Dems back off it is Free Speech time.
