Bush did plenty of pandering to the hispanic community in so. FL in Y2K and 04'.... I saw the "viva Bush" political signs littering the roadsides, and the spanish TV spots with me own two eyeballs... Saw the newspaper ads too... Heard the radio spots with my own ears, en espanol~... Why do you think Bush supported Mel Martinez so heavily?....hummmmm?....ya think maybe GW wanted some of them precious votes from the hispanic community?.... Ol' Mel was working his butt off for GW..

Seems the cornservatives were ahead, or at least on par of the game, eh?....
So I would'nt be so hasty to call out a couple of democraps (both with no chance in hell of getting the party nomination, anyway) for going in a direction thats already been covered by rehublicans and democraps alike...

Special place in hell for the entire lot of em'....

Is it a ploy to show how intelligent they are? Sure seems like a slap in the face for all us english speaking citizens. I've been trying to remain independant, but just like the last election,,,,,,,,I don't see anyone on that side that I like at all.

Think this could be the reason? Anybody growing up and wanting to start there own business would be wise to learn Spanish, especially in the SW, part of the US.

What is this country turning into? Makes me wanna puke. I remember in history class.....immigrants wanted to learn english..wanted to be Americans..why not today? Why do they not want to become true americans anymore? Why do we make it so easy for them to never have to learn our language....go to any hospital or government building...signs are written in languages I have never even heard of. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Either learn english and become a true American...or GO home. I once read an email that I would totally support ....all those who enter country...do two years in the army before being allowed to become an American....let them go fight for our freedom first! I swear dems will do anything for a vote in their favor.

What a bunch of xenophobes. In case you haven't noticed, this country was made of immigrants who all came here with their own languages. In my neighborhood, the illegal aliens in the late 1800s were scandinavian, and they spoke their own languages for years here. In fact, there was one island near me that was still speaking a lot of norwegian until about 25 years ago when the last of the oldest ones died. I'm sure that political candidates at least locally, would have debated in different languages other than english from time to time.

What I find tiresome and sickening is that a bunch of the same fear mongers who are now freaking out about mexican immigrants and spanish being spoken in public are directly descended from the same 1880's swede and finns and what not who snuck into this country and still spoke their native languages long after they were settled here.

here's a question for you mexican-haters:

exactly how has illegal immigration affected you personally in a concrete, meaningful and negative way? Spew from the Limbaugh show and other shock jock nonsense is not acceptable as an answer and neither are vague generalizations or abstractions. I also don't care about how you don't like hearing spanish spoken in public or you are offended by signs or labels in other languages. I want to hear about you or your family unable to carry out your daily tasks because you don't speak spanish, or how you or your loved ones lost their jobs and were directly replaced by an illegal alien, or something of that nature.

The closest I can come to answering that question is that sometimes when I work alongside an illegal on a contractor's site, I have to put extra effort into communication because I took French and Latin in school and not Spanish. But my wages have not gone down, and I have not lost any work.

Last night, the dems had another silly "debate" -- this one with homosexuals of different activist "orgs".
Face it, man ... It is the only way in hell your party will win anything. It once werked using only blacks. now you have every sub-group that feels tread-upon comming outta the woodwerk to support the same party that ,in the words of Melissa Ethrich, "Threw them under the buss"!
Amazing that they keep voting for you guys -- yet they do every time.

It leaves me wondering when they have their NAMBLA "debate" scheduled for.

Rat, I gotta take ya to task on this one......
Here in Seattle, it is increasingly harder to compete with contractor's who are themselves of legal status, but who employ illegals.....
There a about a zillion ways to get fake ss#'s, ID's, etc.....
The only public entity who really cares about it is L&I, 'cuz they want the revenue.....
It is very hard to compete with someone who can pay someone $8-$10 off the books & get away with it, when I gotta pay L&I, state unemployment, FUTA.....
As a result, I do not have any employees any more....
I used to have eight.....
So, the unfair practice of hiring illegals by those that are here leglly because they were born here to illegal immigrants does not get any sympathy from me....
It has affected my business greatly in a detrimental way....
My Grandfather & mother came through Ellis Island from Poland in 1911 & went through the proper channels......
I don't see why our 'friends' to the south should get a free pass, just 'cuz the Rio Grande dried up & they don't have to swim anymore.....
& 'W's' "Let 'em in' is a slap in the face to my grandparents memory...
If you are here illegally, you should be jailed & deported...
NO EXCEPTIONS!....
I don't care where you came from......
The premise that this country needs these illegal immigrants to function is rediculous.......
& some of the banks pandering to illegals should have their charters pulled & be shut down.....

Hey Rat, (I hope ya don't mind bein' called 'Rat', as I could call ya 'Woody' if ya would prefer; [sorry about callin' ya 'Einstein'; that was uncalled fer n' Bro Haut thinks yer a good guy me = bad, VERY BAD, sometimes]). Fairly good post n' not quite as negative as I'm used to readin' from you.

I don't mind LEGAL immigrants from our Southern Flank, I jus' don't want illegals: that's all. They are generally hard workin' God fearin' folks, (that's Jesus Christ not Allah). I jus' want them to obey ALL of our laws.

All Politicians have always pandered to any segment of the population they could get votes from. This is a huge segment, why the big deal: you guys?

Well I don't like it either. But I guess it does make good business sense to move into any market you can have success in. Whoever got there first would have taken the same beating I'm sure.

I think it would benefit repubs to learn spanish too though. Their business will run a lot better when they can effectively communicate with their employees.

I guarantee you 90% of the bible thumpin', Bush lovin', gun totin' folks around here don't see anything wrong with putting some illegals to work. They're also the first to complain that they're here. Not only that, this a very racist place in which I live and mexicans are regarded as the new n***** of the south. These good ol' boys down here love them some mexicans when they have hard work to be done and they're quick to brag about it too.
