The books have been out of print for some time now. You can find them at Amazon or EBay, price has gone quite high, $40.

Good luck Tony.

Book is out of print. Ebay is your mostlikely source. Dennis Moore's website is now history as well. Doing too well with GLM to bother with the website I guess.

Re: Dennis Moore's SBC Book

I saw it Bondo.........

I didn't give up and finally narrowed my problem down to the #3 cylinder as I had mentioned.

I plan on pulling the heads in the fall and sending them out.......then in the spring I am going to pull the rest of the engine to replace the rear main seal, then reinstall the engine and maybe do the final assembly in the boat.

Sounds like fun..........right?..... :)

Any thing else I should do while the engine is out? I was thinking of replacing the starter, manifolds and risers........any HP upgrades I should consider?

Re: Dennis Moore's SBC Book

Did you change the valve springs or lifters when you changed the cam?

Maybe I should start a new post to talk about cam choices?

Re: Dennis Moore's SBC Book

tony, revisit this thread.

http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=24;t=013827

I gave a couple links to the Comp Cam website. Best place for info on changing cams. Stay with total lift less than .480(at least for flat cams, I think you said you have rollers and that might be different) then you can keep stock springs. I changed the lifters in mine as the speed shop said you should ALWAYS change the lifters with the cam (again flat lifters, not as important with rollers). I am running stock parts other than the cam. I have the Comp Cam 12-206-2, .444 total lift intake and exhaust. I have a great idle. going too much bogger can hurt the idle and I didnt want that. I have a lot of shallows in the area I boat and a lot of no wake zones. Read up on some of the information pages shown in the Comp Cam catalog and you'll be able to make your own choice depanding on your expectations and use of your engine.

Yes you can start another thread but you'll get a bunch of opinions like mine above but no real answers as it is really up to you and the way you want things to be (and of course your budget). Get info and read a bit and you'll be able to choose.

Re: Dennis Moore's SBC Book

I paid $212 for the cam and complete new set of lifters, the gaskets added a bit more. I got the cam cheaper from the local speed shop much cheaper than it was online directly from Com Cams website. If you look at the websir\te I posted Comp Cams gives the possible HP increases for the cam you choose in percentages. I believe these are based on automotive applications where the higher rpms can give more gain but it is at least an indication.

You are also right, the roller versions are more $. Like I said above, it depends a lot on your budget what you want to do. Bigger budgets open up more possibilities but dont forget, eventually you would have to deal with the drive getting up graded too so dont try to get to much or you'll increase your repair budget too. Like I said, yopu asked a question there is no answer to, only opinions about. I gave you my opinion based on my experience. I think it likely if every guy on the site gave you an answer to what the best HP upgrade is you are likely to get a hundred different answers. The Pertronix upgrade for example is another easy not too expensive upgrade. I heard from several guys this was the biggest bang for the buck upgrade when I was researching it. I for got what ignition you are running but that is another possibility. Hey this you YOUR toy, collect ideas and do what suits your expectations and budget.

Re: Dennis Moore's SBC Book

I will probably leave the stock cam in there due to $ and I think my engine is already rated @ 270hp......don't want to get to close to 300 where the drive would be in danger.
