Hi Guys,

New to site, and would like some help. Just got a 1987 crestliner mirage.
I am replacing the wood in the transom which was very rotted. I also noticed their is a pretty decent dent in the center where the lower end of the motor bracket would rest near the keel. It is a welded hull and was wondering how to rid of the dend. Would it create a crack if I tried to push it out with a srew jack. My main concern is can I damage the hull.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Dent in Aluminium transom from motor

Welcome to iboats.

If you can push it out then re-install the wood it should not cause any harm.

If it cracks you can get it welded.

If you are going to re-finish the boat you can sand it down to bare aluminum and fair out the dent with marine tex putty.

Some aluminum boats have an additional piece of thin plywood or aluminum between the engine and transom.

Got any pictures of the dent? Sounds like the wook was very rotted!

Let you know what happens Sat.

Thanks,

So I will try a hammer.

Ayuh,... Try to plan your Swats,+ not hammer on it too long,...
Aluminum works hardens pretty Quickly,.... That leads to Cracks...

Maybe have somebody back it up with a block of Wood,.... Good Luck...

Don't just whack it with a hammer, use 2 hammers or a hammer and peice of heavy steel as a backer, just hitting it will just make alot of noise and nothing else, using the backer will let you flatten the metal.

Jus tlike body work on a car, you use a hammer and a dolly as a backer.

Re: Dent in Aluminium transom from motor

when you remount your motor, use a motor pad, to protect the aluminum. just a coated sealed piece of 3/8 plywood on the outside of the transom.
