Depth Finder Display?

Hey
So I have a 1998 Fourwinns RX that had the VDO gauge cluster. I'm sure everyone here has heard about these and heard how terrible they were. So mine was starting to fail and I replaced the cluster with individual gauges. The only problem is that I lost my thru hull depth finder display. I have phoned fourwinns and they say they can't help me. My question is: Is there any display I can buy that will work with the transducer in the bottom of my boat? I really dont want to put another hole in my boat but I like the way that the thru hull will read an accurate depth at all speeds. I have a back up depth finder/fish finder in my boat but it does not read depth while on plain.
Any information would be greatly appreciated

You don't have to cut a hole in a fiberglass boat for a thru-hull transducer. Just expoy it to the glass hull on the inside of the boat and it will shoot through the hull.

does this method read depth while on plane? or maybe a better question...is there a transom mount depth sounder that will read depth while on plane?

There's a thing about that. Most of todays transducers are high speed transducers and will read while on plane and trimmed up, if they're installed correctly!

Sonar doesn't work well through air, and if your transducer is lifted out of the water while on plane or trimmed up it won't read.

If you install the shoot through 'ducer, you need to mount it as close to the stern and center beam as possible for a good reading. If you install the transom mount, you need to install it at the minimum distance from the center beam as per the instructions. The further you mount it from the center beam, the higher in the water it'll be because of the dead rise on your boat... which means your 'ducer can be lifted out of the water when on plane and trimmed up.
