Getting ready to turn over the near finished boat to my son who has ZERO experience owning/operating a boat, event though it has sat in his driveway for several years. I dont want him to go out the first time and grind off his lower unit nor tear it off hitting something. I am looking for an affordable depth finder to keep him honest. Any ideas out there? Not looking for schools of fish either, lol.
cheers,:D

Stick with one of the big name brands like Humminbird or Eagle. Both make decent units for well under $100 new.

That said, any sonar in that price range only tells you what's under teh boat. If your son goes slow, it will help. If he's clipping along the depth alarm is likely to get drowned out by the sound of running aground.
been there-done that :)
