Depth finder reads 2 feet, can't find it

I have a problem. I just bought an open bow runabout and the depth finder doesn't work right. It just reads 2 feet constantly. (I know the main channel at the lake of the ozarks is deeper than that.)The digital gauge in the dash says it is made by Leisure Electronics(?).

So, two things, I can't find the unit, it is obviously not externally transom mounted. Also, if I do find it, what do I do to fix it?

Toss it and buy a replacement.

I can't toss what I can't find. I guess it must be a shoot thru hull mounted transducer. I haven't really gotten in the engine compartment to check it out. I think 2 feet might be as low at the gauge goes. It constantly beeps a shallow alarm.

Not worth the time and money to fix it, even if you could find the parts.

You can put an Eagle Cuda ( 128, 168, or 168ex) on the boat for under $100

My boat had a shoot-thru - worked but performance was lousy. When I did find it, it was epoxied to the inside of the hull. I would have needed a jackhammer to take it off. Just cut the wire and left it. Replaced it with a decent quality unit with a thru-hull transducer.

I'm not sure shoot-thru's are the way to go except for easy installation - my hull is 3/4 solid glass where the thing was mounted and I thing I got a huge attenuation.
