I have a 1990 Maxum 2755 with a 454 mercruiser bravo 2, The depth finder is not working. I know it is a long shot, but does anyone have any ideas where I should start to trouble shoot to see if I can get it working again. I have checked the fuse and it is ok. Didn't see any lose wires, but not sure where to truely look.

Is there any way to match the paint on the inside of the cabin. after cleaning a little it kinda looks like there are some rust spec's on the commore door and a few other places in the cabin....how is the best way to fix this.

thanks rookie

Re: Depth Finder

get a multimeter and see if you have power to the unit.

Just a few ?s too you. How old is your finder and do you use it in saltwater, I have had to replace mine every couple of years due to time and salt water, also towards the end of the finders life i have found out that they only work well in deeper waters and just flashed in shallow waters (3 ft and under) and then i have just replaced them

Re: Depth Finder

I'm in brackish water and never had a problem with any of mine that have warranted replacement. My only issues are the pickups getting coverfed with algae or barnacles.

As far as the paint, you should be able to have it matched. Back when I was searching for interior paint for my boat I made a few phone calls and was told by one company to just bring the boat down when I get ready and they could match the paint by computer.

Some places may even be able to match the paint just by a picture I'm not for sure though, with the technology that is out there it is no telling.

Re: Depth Finder

when the boat is out of the water, with the depth finder turned on put your ear up to the side of the sending unit. You should be able to hear a faint "click...click....click....click..." that would indicate that the sending unit is working. If you don't hear the clicking then the unit is bad, unfortunetly you cannot cut and splice depth finder wires. You'll be forced to draw the new wire from your dash back through and outside the hull.

Jon D due just have to replace the electical unit by the dash or the transponder as well? My unit is getting funky but I hate to have to pull up the transponder. Ike

Re: Depth Finder

I fish salt water 50 percent of the time and My 1981 Lowrance unit works as good as new. I did have to replace one transducer as I think the crystal cracked, Some days it work perfect and the next day would be real flaky.

However I do not leave the unit on the boat when not in use. I take it out of the boat and into the house to get it out of the heat from the sun and protect from theft.
