My depth finder seems to be giving crazy readings lately. I checked in the owners manual and did everything is asked to adjust and re-adjust but it still gives bad depth reads sometimes. Any other suggestions other then buy new? This one came with the boat when I bought it used.

Big PoppaG,have you tried washing the sensor with mild detergent to get scum off sensor.Thats What i did with mine after recommendation from dealer and it worked like a charm.Kinda gets forgot until its not working and most times its just dirty....besides that it might be a real cheap fix if it works.Let us know how you make out.

Looked at it, scrubbed it, adjusted it. Nothing seems to work. It could just be a bad one. I think I might buy a new one next year and install it myself.<br />Thanks.

Re: Depth Finder

Just wondering. Is there a way to check to see if a dept finder is working when the boat is out of the water. I could bet more clearance between the sensor and the ground. Just thought I would throw it out there.

Re: Depth Finder

Big Poppa G - A transducer needs resistance on the acoustic window and should not be activated out of water. Can cause irreparable internal damage to it. Airmar’s engineering has told me if operated for less than 30-secs out of water their ‘ducers should not experience any damage. Most (but not all) recreational sonar ‘ducers are made by Airmar. I have one that is not made by Airmar and I’m told any activation of the transducer out of the water will damage it.
