Does anyone have a problem getting there Depth Finder's to work on a Pontoon boat. I have a 24 ft Starcraft pontoon boat. I bought a brand name finder.I mounted it on the right rear dF mounting and If I'm sitting still it works ,but as soon as I start to move the depth goes to 315ft. Why.

You have to make sure that you fit the unit by the instruction manual, make sure the unit sits under water, if you get air bubbles between the pick-up and the water you will get an inaccurate reading. its usually around 1" below the bottom of the hull and sitting square.

There is no hull, it's a pontoon boat and yes it is grounded.Star craft made the mounting for the sensor so it has to be on correctly. iI don't know how far down the sensor is, It's to hard to see that thing while operating the boat. It's still in winter storage so when it's time to take it out maybe I can get some one to follow me out in the water.

Where is the screen unit grounded. thats the one that should be grounded to the Neg on the battery as it will eliminate any interferance If the Pontoon is in dry storage you should be able to see where the Transducer is mounted and how far in the water it will be . It should be even with the depth of the Keel or bottom of the pontoons.

Looks like everyone is right on with the answers. Water flow and air bubbles are the villians when it comes to the transducers. Even being 1/4" too high will affect the reading. Just take a good look at where you mounted the transducer and look at the hull/pontoon in front of it. Look for any imperfections that may cause turbulance or air bubbles, and then maybe lower it down a little. You can go as low as you want as long as you don't put it in danger of hitting a submerged object, or even when you beach it. Dale
