1973 Glastron Swinger 187
Volvo Penta 270 Outdrive
Ford 302 Engine
When I was out testing my boat, it made a very loud sound. After researching the problem, Don S said he believed the problem was my intermediate bearings. I removed the upper unit and he sure was right. I have a guy who has my EXACT boat, outdrive, motor, everything. He can send me anything I need cheap. He can send me the entire flywheel cover assembly and whatever else I may need, but I'm not sure what is all damaged yet, any suggestions from the pictures?
The upper unit works fine, the u-joint looks good, and the shaft that went into the flywheel looks great. The motor STILL drove the prop in the water when I was tyring to test the boat and it was making the loud sound, and when I ran it on earmuffs the prop still ran with the motor.
This picture is a picture inside the bellows going into the back of the boat towards the flywheel.

This is how I plan on fixing it below.
I have a shop manual, I just am trying to figure out how much stuff I need to fix this.

Don S said:1 Remove the upper gear box on the outdrive
2. Remove 6 bolts (item #41 in link below)
3. Remove lag bolts holding engine front mounts to stringers.
4. Disconnect throttle cable, battery cables, hoses (Fuel and water).
5. Disconnect electrical main harness
6. Lift engine and move forward to clear flywheel housing out of transom shield and lift up.
