Determining Year of Mariner O/B

Hello eveveryone, I have been looking for confirmation on what year this motor was manufactured. 75hp Mariner O/B Model# 75ELPTO and Serial# 06484644. I was told by someone it was a 1997 but another person says its older than that. I bought it as a package deal with boat and trailer. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I know it has to be you guys. Thanks.

Is this a 4 cylinder engine, with a wraparound engine cover, orange stripe?

1984.

A 1997 would have 3 cylinders, one piece lift of cover, oil injection, grey and silver.

Hi Roscoe, thanks for your response. It is oil injected, has a plastic oil container mounted right on the engine. One piece cover and is grey and silver, sounds like it may be a 1997.

Most likely 1997, or there about.

The model number is the newer style that they went to.
But the serial number doesn't fit according to my book.
Could be the number or my book is wrong.
