HI,I AM regularly facing detonation problem with the dt 225 EFI SUZUKI & even pre ignition. The craft is of marine aluminium grade, makes about 8 mts & weighs about 3 tons and is fitted with two 225 efi suzuki.Hrs run about 1000.Is it a proplem with the weight of the craft or a recurrent defect with the engine? By the way I want to know more about the 200 hp yamaha model fetox, its features & recurrent defects and if still online. Please help with advice.

Mate, could be low octane fuel, causing cylinder head temps to high, carbon build up in combustion chamber, Timing out. Or simply to much throttle giving to much fuel air charge for your revs, lugging the motor, just back off. Detonation is not a good thing, you will burn a valve, or bend a rod.<br />Cheers Justin

Re: detonation on dt 225 suzuki

Thks for your info.we are beeing supplied with 95 octane whereas the recommended fuel is at least 85 for this model(dt 225 "M" '91).The timing is automatically set by the micro computer.A few days after a major overhauling, the pistons detonated on the port bank.no carbon build-up in the combustion chamber.Might be other problem?
