Not sure if i should put this ? here or in the prop section? Please move if needs to be.

I was just thinking about the prop that came with the motor when i bought it.[1995 evinrude 88 SPL]As most of you know i've been trying to get this thing to run right for weeks..Anyway,i got thinking about the prop and it came with a 13 3/4X13P which compaired to my 19p should run 1200 more rpm's which would put around 5700 rpm's,right where it needs to be.So is it possible that someone had it detuned to run that prop or would it not make a difference if it where on a heavier boat.Don't have any idea what the motor was on before i bought it and no way to find out, really wish i did though!

Thanks,
Mike

Re: detuned

once you motor is running properly, you should prop it properly for the boat it is running on. you should be turning atleast 5500 rpms to 5800 rpms, the 19 pitch is usually a good fit for that motor. that motor may have been on a pontoon before. but it also has to fit what it is pushing.

speed is not what you are looking for it is the proper wot rpms.

The 6 inch difference in pitch is kind of huge depending what hull and weight you are pushing with it. My outfit in my signature with a 140hp Johnson has 2 props that I use. A 14 X 17 pitch for beginner skiers and heavy loaded tubing. Solo this prop would let my motor run to around 7,000 rpm if I let it. My other prop is a 14 X 19 pitch and runs right on 6,000 RPM at WOT. Slower out of the hole when towing though.

Re: detuned

i put the appropriate prop on, acording to prop wizard it said either a 19p or 21p.i already had a 19 so all i had to do was buy a new hub for evinrude motor.
