Crankcase does not run in the water so " raising the motor higher on the transom to get the c/c out of the water to let the oil run hotter" does make any since to me. But to each his own thoughts

Sorry but the oil resevoir does. Especially when trolling. This info came from a BRP service update but maybe they don't know anything either ???

Re: DF70 head will not move

OK boyz, not that we have all of the clear, I have another question.
Back in the day when I installed a head gasket, I would paint it with that copper head gasket sealer/paint.
That is unless it was none of those nice Felpro ones with the embossed elastimor. Those were good old American iron.
But since this is an aluminum marine engine,
I'm leery about using copper. I also used to paint them with aluminum paint. My question is what do you think, and what do you use on your head gasket?
My plan is to use that grey small engine sealer on the other gaskets. I'm also going to use Zink cromate primer on the bottom of the power head water wetted section only.

Curious? Did you ever get a factory service manual and what does that say ?

I have the factory manual, and the parts, and the same question!
The manual does not say anything about sealant.
It only says to oil the bolts prior to assembly
I have found a few post that recommend Indian shellac, perfect seal, 3m Aviation, Aviation Permitex, and nothing!

If this is a genuine factory service manual I'd follow it and make sure the head is torqued properly.

Re: DF70 head will not move

I put here back together.
She fires right up on the 2nd try.
She ran OK, but had a slight mis.
Then I pulled the valve cover and adjusted the valves.
(I know a little late and out of sequence). They were just a tad lose.
That did not solve the problem. I adjusted the idle air valve, the mag PU gap, and the idle air valve.
I checked the timing. Somewhere in there the problem is largely gone. I can still here it just a bit.
It looks like the timing shifts or skips every now and then, that is the miss that happens some times.

The over charging beep is back! It had not reared it's head since I converted the engine from tiller control.

So fare so good. Now I need to get the stiffness out of the sift cable, and the NFB steering. These may be Boston whaler CC issues.
I'm ready for my 4th sea trial guys.
That will be followed by re-touring the head and maybe a bit of touch-up paint on the engine mount.

Re: DF70 head will not move

UP date.
I went to Irvine lake on Friday.
Then motor was idling too fast, min speed was 3.4knts!
Not so great for trolling.
The motor is good, no water so fare.
New SS prop 13.25 x 17 = 22Knts at 4000 RPM
We may have a winner here boyz!
After I got back, I got the idle speed under control.
Was 1050 is about 650. We should be go for Sriper trolling (TARGET SPEED 2 KNTS).
It looks like the base gasket was the fix!
The next fun will be for chasing tail, not just a try out.
No beeping all day until at home on the hose.
The oil light is flashing I need to reset it, it's an oil change reminder.

Re: DF70 head will not move

I went to P_Stone lake on Sat.
She is idling along at 2.4Knts. That is just a touch fast for me but the engine speed is close to 600RPM
I'm not sure I can get her to run much slower.
She is 1.1 knts with the break on.
With two 1/2 men we were 24KNTs at 5000RPM.

No signs of water in the oil to date! I think we are good here.
