I need to replace the starting battery in a Sea Pro SV1700 with a Suzuki DF70 EFI four stroke. And then will be adding a second deep cycle battery to run instruments IE: VHF, GPS & FF. I cannot find anywhere here or in the SELCO shop manual that I bought, what the minimum size starting battery sould be for this engine. I do not have the original installation manual & papers that came with the motor. If anyone can send me a link to some facts, or tell me where to find it I would appreciate it. Also should I go with a straight marine starting battery or combination start/deep cycle in a two battery set up.

Thanks for you help guys !!!

Re: DF70 Minimum starting battery size

My 90HP Yamaha calls for a starting battery with 380 Amps of cold crank performance, but I usually run a battery with a bit more just to have some extra. I'm confident that what works for a 90HP should be sufficient for your 70HP, but your owner's manual will give you the requirements. I buy my Marine Starting Batteries at Autozone, usually get about 3 years out of them. Best thing you can do for a battery is keep it charged up. Good Luck!
