Thanks in advance, this think is driving me nuts. Heres the situation.
1992 Johnson 150 faststrike 60*. New cooling system, engine temp verified to be 140*, New plugs, carbs cleaned, good spark on all 6, 110-115 compression on all 6.

The engine starts very easy and will immediately idle cold with no throttle input. But... it has a very hard time reving at all. It mostly sputters and tries to die. Now, if I push the little doohickey(the red arrow points to the doohickey) about 3/4" forward, the engine smooths out, sounds great, and will rev effortlessly. I know this is in relation to timing, but thats all i know at this point!

One of those sets the low speed timing the other sets the top timing. DO NOT move the one for top end timing. If you have, recheck the timing.

Adjust the one for low speed all you like. Whatever it takes to make the motor accelerate. Just make sure the motor gets a little advance before it picks up and throttle linkage.

ok, I adjusted the low speed to the max + setting and it seemed to work. should it have to be set that far?

It might have to be if the motor sits fairly deep in the water. The carbs are all clean and the sync-n-link was all to spec, right?
