Wasnt this the shop that rebuilt it or am I thinking of someone else? (Very possible)

I agree, they're either not sure of how to do the dyno run or trying to avoid something. Verifying your tach with a shop tach only takes a minute. The shop tach clips on just like a timing light.

If they wont do the dyno deal, ask them to run it with a test wheel (in the water -- not a test tank). The proper test wheel number and rpm is in the OE service manual.

If it wont reach the right rpm with the test wheel, somethings wrong with the motor. If it reaches proper test wheel rpm (not to be confused with normal running rpm), then the motors OK.

Re: DHadley, could you look at the pics of my motor height??

Thanks DHadley, this is not the shop that rebuilt the motor...

Maybe I am whining over nothing, who knows, but when I set my appointment with these guys it was set up to run on the dyno for a 1/2 hour shop rate. When I told them what I was primarily looking to verify (tach accuracy) they than changed their approach and said they would just use the shop tach, but they would not revise the amount they were going to charge me..

Thats when I said NO lets run it on the dyno and verify WOT timing, tach, and pressure, thats when they started back pedeling...

I have a hard time paying $70.00 for a 5 minute job, when they said they would give me a 30 minute dyno pull for the same amount.

Also using the shop tach, they wanted to leave the boat on the trailer, but since your not suppose to run over 2500RPM with out a load on the motor, how would they verify the tach is accurate at 5000 RPM???

Ask them. Maybe they were going to use a test wheel and just back the trailer down the ramp. Thats fine as long as its deep enough. If its too shallow the test prop can vent and the tach reading be off (not enough load and the reading go up).

The idea is to have the motor at the proper depth and the test wheel will come to a specified rpm (as stated in the OE manual).

Telling them you are looking for a possible "lack of power" problem in the motor is OK. At least they'll be looking for the same thing. In the process we'll verify the tach.

Will do, I will call them back today....

But prior to making my appointment I explained in detail to them why I needed my motor to be ran on the dyno..

So when I talk to them today I will ask about the test wheel option..

If this dont work, I will wait until Johnson Marine can get me in there and they will run it on the dyno..

Re: DHadley, could you look at the pics of my motor height??

Check this out guys.... I recieved a call from my local marine shop here in Lake Elsinore California... (the only one in Lake Elsinore, California) telling me my 13x19SST prop was all fixed up ready for me to pick up...

I go in and take delivery of my super shiney prop, look at the hub, and it hadnt been changed. They wanted to charge me $160.00 for the prop...

Needless to say I was HOT
I ripped into those guys. So I wait another week for my prop to be fixed.... (again)

This was the same shop that screwed me over on verifying my tach reading, etc....

DHadley, you need to move to California and open a shop here....... ;) ;) ;)

For 175.00 you could have a 18" Turbo Lightning Jr.

Re: DHadley, could you look at the pics of my motor height??

I learned alot tonight,, I unexpededly ended up going boating tonight, my son talked me into taking him wake boarding...

While I was out playing, I played with my trim, I found that I was able to trim the motor up beyond the "up" part on my trim gauge.

It acually went from trim to tilt before my motor began to ventalate.

That tells me I can raise that sucker up at least 2 to 3 holes on the transum doesnt it???

I wont do it until I verify my tach, but it is nice to know I have some adjustment left in it.

Mine won't go beyond the "trim" to the "tilt" until the RPM is pretty low.

Re: DHadley, could you look at the pics of my motor height??

The gauge may be off some but the bottom line is that if you can trim to the top of the trim range, yes I'd bet you can raise the motor.

The Turbo Lightning Jr is Turbo's version of a V4 Raker. 13 1/2" diameter. It may have slightly more bit that a Raker. The cost is obviously an advantage.

Hey icehole, ( i love that name!!!) I cant get into the "tilt" either, I can go to the point that the motor will no longer trim.

The gauge appears to be spot on, as far as when the motor tilts in reference to what the gauge is reading, I also made sharp turns with the motor at a rather high trim setting and had no prop ventalation...

I am running my super high performance 4 blade composite prop....

Re: DHadley, could you look at the pics of my motor height??

I guess I misunderstood - I thought you said it went into tilt when you were running at a good RPM. I see you're from around the Lake Elsinore area? My mom and stepdad are just closing up the sale on their house there now. They are doing an early retirement and moving full-time to their place down in Ensenada (great fishing!!). I'm so jealous. . . .

Yea, it was easier to describe that I went from trim to tilt, It was just referencing "HI" on the gauge and thats where the tilt usually kicks in at...

Where in Lake Elsinore???? I have a house off of Highway 74 and off of Lake street....

Hey DHad, are those Turbo Jr's. props avalible anywhere??

I don't know the area all that well, but it is on Amorose. They are a good distance, but you can see the lake from their back yard.

Re: DHadley, could you look at the pics of my motor height??

I finally got my prop back from the shop, that was nearly a 3 week ordeal...but the blades are all cleaned up, and a new hub installed.

Now to verify that darn tach...
