Hello, i have a 1992 Johnson 200 gt, model stlens. I have the opportunity to buy a brand new set of carbs and throttle bodies off of a 1996 200hp. Just wondering if these are completely interchangeable. The part numbers for the new carbs are #436550 for the uppers and #436551 for the lowers. If these carbs and throttle bodies are not compeletly compatible, what do i need to do to get them to work out? Thanks for the help,
Steve

Yep, those will work just fine. In fact you can then use the "Thumbscrew" style airbox instead of the airbox you have now. That makes the whole motor cleaner looking and carb servicing is much easier.

That seems like the new sets Pro Marine has. Good carbs.

They might have slightly smaller venturis so if absolute top speed is important, there may be a slight difference. If youre set up at less than 6000 rpm, you may not notice any difference.

Good luck!

great to hear that they will work out. I had to go through one of my carbs last year and it was pretty gunked up, so when i saw this opportunity it seemed like a better option. I'll have to keep my eye out for the newer style airbox and pick one up if i see one for a resonable price somewhere. It is a pain to take out all of those screws just to get to the carbs, especially on the water. I'm setup at about 5600/5700 rpm tops, so I hope the smaller venturi's don't make too much of a noticeable difference. I still have about 5mph on my best friend's setup, so i have a little bit to give :) , but not much. Hopefully i'll gain that back just by having clean carbs again! Thanks for all of your help.
Steve

If they are indeed off of another motor, just get the airbox with them.

At that rpm you may not see much difference if they are smaller. It wouldnt hurt to get your rpm's up if you can.

I just called and they do not have an airbox available unless i want to order a new one. Will my old airbox work with these carbs ok until i happen upon another one, or do i have to have the replacement airbox to put the carbs on?
Steve

You can use yours.

Have the carbs been cleaned? I'd hate to see you put them on and damage a piston from a clogged carb.

BTW -- whats wrong with yours that you need to replace them?

supposedly the carbs have never been run, but we'll see. I have had this motor for a year and the previous owner never winterized the fuel system or drained carbs for the winter, so they are just varnished up and i was going to buy carb kits for them and replace all of the jets before taking it out this year. Last year i had a few times that i had to pull a carb off on the water, dissasemble, wipe off and blow through it to get them to work right.
Steve

Wow! To have to pull and clean a carb on the water puts kind of a crimp in your boating enjoyment!

Dont throw yours away though. You should be able to soak them and clean the jets (instead of replacing) so they will work. But I can see why youre ready to spend some serious $$ to avoid the problem.

None of my business, just curious -- what are they getting for a new set of carbs?

Re: dhadley, omc gurus please help out on carb question.

I am getting this set off of ebay, and we all know how "new" can take on a whole different meaning when dealing on ebay. Basically the guy stated that he changed these out when he bought the motor new in favor of some already "worked" carbs. States that they were never even run and were changed out before the motor was installed. Should be easy enough to tell if that's the case. We'll see what they look like when they get here, if nothing else, at least i can clean and rebuild on my own timetable with two different sets of carbs. I only gave up $100 for all six carbs and the throttle bodies. It's worth that just to scavenge parts off of them if they don't work out.

They are worth every bit of 100.00 if they are what the guy says. Good find!

Let us know how they work out!

sorry, but just a few more questions if you get this dhadley. The plot thickens, now i get an email saying that the carbs are complete EXCEPT for the adjustable needle valves? Any idea on how much these would cost me if i were to have to buy them and the part numbers? Exactly the reason i hate doing business on ebay. Thanks
Steve

Oh-oh. What else is missing? And why?

The needle is part number 341922 and the spring is number 332576. I really dont have a current cost, any Bomb dealer can tell you.

Keep us posted.

yeah, i was pretty happy to hear it too. I am currently e-mailing him to see what he will do since the auction said complete and ready to bolt on and run. We'll see.
One last question if you have the timea nd are not getting too tired of my endless questions. I have seen some other posts where you recommend using a different plug than the QL77JC4 for looper motors. I forget the number, but i think it was QL78YC. Is mine one of the motors that is recommended to go to the different plug? I am currently running the QL77JC4. Thank you for all of your time and effort. You have helped me out a ton both now and in the past.
Steve

No problem. You can use the QL78YC. I just prefer (personally) the cooler QL77JC4.

Keep us up on your carb deal.
