Hi Sir,

I have the motor I rebuilt broken in , finally.

It is set up , with anti- ventilation plate, approx. 2 " above bottom of hull. Second hole from top.

I have run a aluminum ( stock I think) 13 X 19 . I get 5200 rpms , with , best I can figure average load.

I also had tried a 12 3/4 X 21, SS , all I know is its a michigan wheel prop.

I only had 4800 rpms with it.

The boat is a 15' 6" Procraft, bass boat. Motor is a 78ETL115.

Other then the rpms , the motor does great on boat.

It gets out of the hole great with either prop. It will run on plane ,down to about 20 mph.

There is little more then the prop and pad in water, when trimmed up.

Handles perfectly, in turns.

I didn't notice much difference in WOT speed between the two props. Right around 45 mph , GPS.

What do I need to do to get my rpms up ???

Do I need to drop down to a 17 P prop ??
If this is what you recommend.

Can I get by with an aluminum prop ???

I dont have the extra cash ,for a $200.00 + SS prop , right now .

I'd be glad to trade someone the 21 SS for a used 17 SS . If this is what I need.

Thank - You,

KYhunter :)

We could try going up a tad with he 19 but being aluminum I'm afraid it will start losing bite rather quickly. I'd hate to drop to a 17 without testing a ss 19 though.

Dhadley , so do I need to try to borrow a ss 19 ?
Is there usually a rpm difference from alum. to ss ?
When you said up a tad , I dont have a jack plate .
Would this mean a hole up ?
I have very little experience with set up .
I ran it with the alum again yesterday , and it is right at 5200 , just wanted to confirm.

Thanks,
KYHunter

Raise the motor 1 hole and see how the rpm responds. Dont worry, at this point, if the prop vents on take off or in sharp turns.

If you could borrow a 19 that would be great.

Re: Dhadley, Set -up question ?

Sorry , I didnt reply sooner.

I checked on , a prop to borrow. I can get one .

What I wanted to ask was .

On my hydrosport , you could trim too high . And prop would lose bite/ ventilate .

On this one you cant.

Should I be able to trim too high ??

If I understand , what I just said, is answered. By doing what you said.

I'll raise it a hole, first chance I get.

How much will this effect , getting on plane?

Or is it a wait and see , and go from there ??

This part, is kind of fun .

I'm interested in, what the difference will be .

Its like a new toy, when you change something.

And take it to lake, the first time.

Thanks for your help, and time.

KYHunter :)

Re: Dhadley, Set -up question ?

A general rule of thumb is that if you can use 100% of the trim range you can probably raise the motor with that given prop / hull combo. Raising the motor reduces drag which increases overall efficiency. Which includes holeshot.
