I put a post on here a couple of weeks back. I was interested in what years and models that johnson and evinrude had the bad gears in the lower units. You sent a post back telling me where I could get the gears, but I'm more interested in what years it effected. I work at a marine so parts aren't a problem to get. Now on the other hand I seen a lower unit fall apart litterly on the internal. and I was curious if this unit was one of the bad ones. One other thing you might look at. 2000/2001 factory rigged boats with johnson motors OMC control. The neutral detent in control box very weak, when engine was run on hose 1500rpms, pull control handle back to neutral, control would go past neutral into reverse. I seen this on 90 hp up to 250 hp. You didnt ask, but I think the quality control problems goes back at least 1986.

Sorry about the delay but I am on the road and haven't had the chance to check this board as often as I like.<br /><br />Clanton brings up a good point. As far as the actual years go, I don't know that it was a definate line but there have been some odd gears show up the last few years and not all from OMC / Bombardier. If you read some other posts I mentioned the known good strong gears are available from Pro Marine and Outboard Recycle.<br /><br />Good luck!
