Specs.....

2000 Welcraft Fisherman CC 210
1996 Evinrude Ocean Pro
225 hp
Compression is fine....

Here are the problems I am having......

1. Bogging at WOT
2. Stalling at idle/neutral only after the motor is warm
3. Motor smokes, at neutral, idle, and some at speed
4. Very slow to plane

The problem is getting up to speed also. The motor just seems like it's held up by something while increasing throttle. Also, it will periodically stall out in neutral and in foreward/reverse gear at idle. It has an 1 audible click......then it sounds like the motor quits and comes back to life real quick....or it will just shut off out of no where....remember this is only for neutral and idle. The motor does restart like nothing even happened when it stalls

My first instinct was it's a fuel delivery problem because of the no-power/bogging issues/stalling. But....when I have a buddy pump the bulb while having stalling problems.....but nothing happens.

I have been told many things by the shop that is looking at it....just need some other ideas.

The shop thought it might have been a carb problem, but after they rebuild all of the them and cleaned them there is no change.

Appreciate the help guys.

They're guessing.!
That would have been simple to troubleshoot without having to rebuild the carbs to find out.
Hitting the choke bypasses the carbs when it bogs down, if it didn't make the engine perk up then the carbs were fine.

But why is it smoking?
Is it hot?
exh leak choking it out ?

Check that the shift assist switch is not 'hanging'.

Gee, Did anyone do a compression check? How about a spark test? Until those are done, and problems associated are ruled out, everyone is just guessing.

Not quite!!
But sometimes it is needed to eliminate sources that may create problems as described.
Read the 4th line on the first posting:
Compression is fine
It would be close to an insult asking him to do it again at this stage.
The problem is not there at 'cold' engine, looks like the quick start function manages to keep it alive.
I do not see any mentioning of 'sneezing'/backfire which normally comes with a low comp cylinder or lean carb?
So far at the moment it looks ignition related, and as such start with the easiest, eliminate what may cause problems.

Not overheating, ok why is it smoking, is it exhaust smoke?
That will play havoc with running as the smoke chokes the air out of it.
Run it without the cover and see if it improves, if yes then its probably the exh cover gaskets.

Where do you find the exhaust cover gaskets on a 225 looper 96?

Re: Diagnosis Help.....

trouble starts after motor is warm, QS shuts off. was it disabled when timing was checked? Sync and link, then troubleshooting may be easier.

So it's not the shift assist......it's acting like it's missing now.....thinking in the power pack direction.

Take off the cover and let the engine run at idle, and wait for the 'click'.
Is this coming from the VRO?
The VRO should make a 'click' about every 15+ second when running at idle.

Re: Diagnosis Help.....

Can u disconnect the VRO and use premix to see if the smoking stops/lessens?
