I bought a used 5 hp Mariner 2 stroke and am trying to get it to run. Good spark so since it hasn?t been running for years I disassembled the carb to clean. Something just doesn?t look right on the gaskets on the diaphragm fuel pump.
The double gaskets between the pump and carb body were assembled so the little rectangular hole that allows fuel to flow from pump to bowl were offset as if someone had taken it apart and put it back together backwards. I tried to run the motor this way and it would not run. I then took it apart again and flipped the gaskets so the holes lined up. The motor actually ran! It did idle pretty fast so I shut it off and will go back and adjust the idle but I just had to ask. Is there something about the hole alignment that I am missing? Should they be offset? I took very good care taking it apart so have no doubt this is how it was assembled before I got at it.
I also tried to post pictures, with no success. Hopefully I described this clearly enough.
Thanks,
Ernie
