Bought a vintage evinrude 1967 18hp fastwin today for 200 bucks, the motor runs good and has 115 compression in both cylinders, but it is so old and i am wondering if parts/maintenance is going to be a problem? Another problem is that it is a bit large for a trolling motor, its going to go on a 1966 18ft holiday next to a 1976 85hp seahorse. what do you guys think?

Parts and maintenance are cheap and easy---the easiest, I think. Great motor. I never do any trolling so I can't help you there. If you're doing lots of trolling, J6C plugs are supposedly better than the factory J4C plugs because they're a little hotter and foul less. There's not a huge difference in weight from a 10hp to an 18hp.
Good luck,
JBJ

that's a great old motor there. Have fun. won't be ahrd to resell for $200 if it doesn't work out.

Might be loud for trolling but I don't know if that matters for your kind of fishing

What do you mean, "old"? 45 years is just well broken in for those JohnnyRudes. The Fastwins of the 60s are great outboards that will last another 50 or so with good care.

That's a good motor. I think it is a bit large for a trolling motor IMHO.

Its a great motor and about the same weight as a 10 hp of that vintage, so you basically get 8 extra hp for free. I use a 1960 18 hp on my 18 foot seapro CC as a trolling motor and it works great. It will also get you home if needed.

The 22 cuber Johnrude 18s would probably hit many TOP 5 OUTBOARDS EVER lists. Solid, durable design, good parts availability, lightweight for the power, easy to work on...

I used one to troll with on a 15 footer for several years, it will work fine.

Great guys here are some pics, also I was wondering what this low speed mixture nob was for? It does not seem to do anything when I adjust it.IMAG0256.jpgIMAG0274.jpgIMAG0282.jpg
