Did i Do any Damage to My out drive?

i went out yesterday ran into sand , i have to trim the foot up to start it to get out , would i damage my footend this way , i hear you should not start it with the outdrive up, is it true ?

You will damage the u joints by running it past the redline on the gauge.....
How long you ran it in that position & at what rpm will determine if you did any damage....
If you do not hear or feel any unusual noise or vibration, you are probably OK......

what kind of drive do you have?

i beached my boat in a bay. the sand was very silty soft stuff. like mud.
i lowered the leg 3/4 the way down. started it and backed out. i sucked up a lot of mud and it didnt cool. had to try all kinds of stupid stuff to clear it.. when i got it home i had to pull the impeller and replace it.

as far as starting the drive with it up.
dont start it in the full up position. your asking for trouble. it can start but if the u joints are weak they might let go.

well i hear noise thats why i am asking , but my gimbal bearing is bad, so i dont know if this cause it to get worst .

If it's already bad, FIX IT !!!!!!!!!!! Before you screw something else up.

Now you'll probably need new U-joints too........

Keep it up and you will need an engine coupler as well....
