Did i fry my computer???

I have an 87 yamaha excel. Went to check on it today during a nasty storm. Battery has a draw on it somewhere so it was almost dead. Turned it over a few times and nothing. It may have a short in the shifter neutral safety switch sometimes it needs a jiggle. Swapped battery and rushing in the storm failed to notice on the fresh battery the poles are swapped. Same brand and everything a stupid mistake. Swapped em back and not a damn thing. It was too nasty out to check the inline fuse in the engine and dive into it. Gona let it dry out for a day. If ive still got nothing when everything dries up, connections in the shifter and inline fuse are checked, where would i start after that? Could this fry a computer? Any advice or starting points would be greatly appreciated

Before you jump to conclusions - Check all the fuses. Fuses often blow when the battery is hooked up backwards, that's one of the reasons why the fuses are in the circuit.

Gaboater would the starter still engage? It literally does nada. Not even a freaking click

Starter needs voltage. A blown use interrupts the voltage.

In your case, I have no idea what circuits are protected by a fuse, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I can't say for sure without a lot more info on your engine but on Yamahas the fuse usually protects (or kills) everything but the PTT.

While the larger gauged wires to the starter may not be fused, and that really depends on the manufacturer, the key power wire can easily be fused at the engine itself that goes to the starter solenoid to activate the starter. So if that fuse blew, you would have zero starter action. JMHO

Blown fuse in the motor. It was hiding but i finally found it. Thanks a bunch gentlemen

Yamaha, in their wisdom knew that certain folks( myself included) would occasionally hook the battery up backwards....so the 20 amp in- line fuse. Fool-proof system is very good!...

The Neutral Safety Switch just prevents the engine from being started in gear, I has nothing to due with the ignition. I would disconnect the white wire from the CDI and check for spark, this is the stop ckt so if you forget to put it back on you will not be able to ground out (stop the motor). But to be honest I can count on my pinky the number of switch boxes I have replaced from Yamaha. I'll pm you the service manual, see if that helps. Also this is an alternator driven ignition not battery powered FY!
