Did I get a good deal on this Evinrude?

Hey guys,
I just bought a 94 Evinrude 8 HP for $400. It had only one owner(retired) and looked well taken care of, it even had the owners manual. It started up great and ran strong. Did I get a good deal for this for $400??

If it's in good running condition then I would have bought it for 400$ no problem.

C'mon.........There is no bad deal on an EVINRUDE!!!
But yes, I agree. That's a nice motor for that price.
It'll outlast you most likely.

IF! You do a few simple maintenance items.

1. Water pump.

2. Gear lube change with new fill/drain plug screw seals.

All of that is about $35.00

Great deal on that. It's a great outboard...one of the most reliable out there in that horsepower range. Where I am, those sell for between $6-800 in good condition and that recent.

I have a 1992 6hp, pretty much the same engine, and it's dead-on reliable.

I paid $600 for a 1974 9.9 with new 3 gal. tank and hose, from the local marine mechanic, it was his own personal engine.
