Did I get ripped off?

I just picked my Trailer up from a local tire store that I have never been to before. I called for a quote to get 2 new tires on my trailer and they said out the door around $80. The tire size is 4.80 X 12. I only got the tires, and kept the same rims. They charged me $105 when the tires were only $26.00 each. They charged me $36 in labor. Do you think that this was a high price?<br /><br />Thanks for you input.<br /><br />Jason

Ok, In my opinion that was a lot of money to replace the tires. <br /><br />For example, I can have a set of truck tires mounted and balanced for about $15 a piece. <br /><br />Just my .02

I bought a pair of Carlisle's last year at wal-mart in that size (rim with tire mounted at the factory) and only paid about $40-45 each.

Where did the other $17 dollars go???? 2 tires @ $26 apiece is $52 plus the $36 in labor.......??????

They charged me 2 X $3 for valve stems = $6, 2 X $11 for balancing = $22, and I think Sales Tax and some other fees covered the remainder.<br /><br />Sorry for the confusion.<br /><br />Jason

That does not add up either. I don't know where the fees went to, all I know is the total was $105

Phone back and ask the manger what a set of those tires installed goes for. If they give you different price, tell them you are unhappy with their first bill.<br /><br />It does sound expensive but did they have to include an inner tube for each rim or did they jam you a dismount / disposal fee for the old tires?

Over here in Australia, if you buy new tires from them, they generally fit and balance them for free..<br /><br />register your displeasure with them and don't go back.<br /><br />rgds<br /><br />Frankn

$80.00 plus sales tax plus fed tax plus disposal fee plus shop materials (becoming a common charge) might have brought it to $105.00. Total should have included everything though. I always get written work orders and draw a line thru empty charge lines before I sign the order.

Nice to know (or maybe not nice..) That I'm not the only one getting the shaft these days!<br /><br />I would definately lodge a complaint, and demand to see all charges. Is there any kind of money back guarantee? Tell them you are unhappy with them and take 'em back if it's worth your while.<br /><br />Word of mouth goes a long ways. Don't go back and let everyone know how you were treated.<br /><br />H.
