The only bad thing about the switch in the "both" position is that you can forget it, and then you could run both batteries down to the point where you are dead in the water. That's why I really like the combiner, or Bruce58's bluesea ACR. When there is sufficient power to charge both batteries the device will throw the switch for you. When you are drawing down the system the device will isolate a starting battery. The lower lever yandina is good to 100 amps, and there are others with higher amp levels. Since my 55 hp Johnny puts out 6 amps I'm good with the 100.
