Did my windshield move?

Hey guys...new guy here. I got a question about my windshield on my 1995 Reinell. Well, the window that opens in the middle part doesnt fit snuggly to the next window that it closes against. It seems as if the drivers side windshield has actually moved. Has anybody else had this problem? Here's some pics:

Im not sure if any of you have experienced this same problem, but any advice on how I should go about fixing this, or what others have done would be great. Thanks in advance, Jared

Re: Did my windshield move?

I'm not sure if its moved, or if that's just the way it was to start with. My boat has a walk through windshield and I have the same wear on the gelcoat where it lands on the side when closed like you show in your 2nd picture. I was thinking of what I could do to keep it from continuing to wear into the gelcoat.

Re: Did my windshield move?

Check the windshield brace that is attached to the top of the windshield and the port side console. If it's loose or shifted it may account for the movement you've noticed. The support should have an adjustment; you can try lengthening it slightly, maybe 1/8", to see if it helps the alignment of the windshield.

On second thought, perhaps the starboard windshield hasn't moved in relation to the console but instead the console may have shifted. How secure is the console to the deck/hull?

Re: Did my windshield move?

Most of the boats that I've seen like that actually had issues with the consoles sagging. The boat gets older, things get a little soft under the floor, and the consoles settle in a bit. By extension, the windshield pieces no longer align. Might be able to adjust it out by resetting the windshield supports...

Re: Did my windshield move?

If you look at the third link down that I posted...there is a significant gap between the window that opens, and the mounted window. I am almost positive that there was some type of movement there, but just cant figure out what happened. Anybody got any ideas of how I could just extend the middle window to make it longer and close that gap? The only reason I say this is because my window is to the point that when the boat is moving and the window is closed, the metal part that is supposed to overlap will fall through...any tips, thanks

DBreskin: Im almost certain that there hasnt been a shift in the console, it is very secure and no movement what so ever. thanks

So why not loosen the windshield set-screws and adjust it back to where it should be?

Re: Did my windshield move?

Either the windshields moved apart or the consoles did.

Remove the plastic molding on the bottom of both windshields and that will expose the screws. There is usually some play in the screws and bottom windshield frame and you may be able to move them closer together. Just loosen the screws a bit and push the windshield over.

If that does not align the 2 sides and make the center piece fit exactly, check your floor and stringers for soft spots. If the cause is that the consoles are moving apart, you may have a hull problem.

The mounting screws are set in a track at the bottom of the frame. Doesn't seem that much of an impossibility for the frames to have slid a little in either direction. Should be easy to readjust as Jim posted above.

Re: Did my windshield move?

I had the EXACT same issue this year and checked ALL around to try to figure out what had shifted. Well, we were cruising in some pretty rough chop trying to get back to the dock and I looked over and my wife was useing the windshield frame to steady herself and every time we hit a big wave I could see her actually MOVEING it a few inches. Basicly she bent the frame. I loosend it all up and got it close to being lined up, and very nicely showed my wife the nice sturdy handle on the dash that the boat manufacturer installed for that exact purpose..............
