I bought the motor 25 hp 1984 j25rcrd push button start about year ago. The motor has been working great. Matter of fact I was just praising it the other night while fishing. About one in the morning I was heading back at full trottle when all of a sudden it died. The motor refused to restart. Since then I did a visual inspection of the motor. I replaced some fuel lines that looked cracked and worn. The motor is clean and very new looking. The spark plugs looked normal and the motor cranks but no start. Before this problem one push of the start button and it would start right up and idle like a dream. The only thing that I did that night before going fishing was stopping at the gas station topping off the gas tank, which is 6 gallon plastic. I added 3 gallons along with oil. It started right up and got me to the destination and idled and started right up all night and into the morning until I headed back at full speed and has not started since.

Since the engine ran fine before you made the fuel purchase, it's possible that you also purchased some water (been there, done that).

Check your fuel for water contamination.

Also, remove the s/plugs and check the ignition. The spark should jump a 7/16" gap with a strong blue lightning like flame.

Let us know what you find.

I will be trying some new gas and spark plugs sometime today. I am using a filter on the gas line. I poured the gas out into a clean 5 gallon bucket. The color was a light green. There was some black and red chunks in bottom of bucket from the gas tank. Glad that I decided to put filter on the line when I bought this tank new. I will let you know what happens.
Thanks
Mike

Simply changing the fuel won't do the job. Remove the screw/bolt from the bottom front area of the carburetor float chamber so that you can pump the fuel primer bulb and flush any debris/water/whatever from the complete engine fuel system.

When you reach a point where you know the fuel flowing out is good, replace that screw/bolt.

Been there, done that too! Hey the clumps in the bottom of the bucket sounds like a Fungus that will grow in gas tanks under certain conditions. I've never seen it, but have heard about it and know that you can get a Fuel Additive specifically for this.

Hi everyone,
Well I went through the process of changing fuel.
I do believe the fuel was good. I'm careful about that particular issue since on another engine I got burnt. Metal tank and rust etc. This time, new and plastic and a filter that I can see through. Well anyways., (no spark) far as I can tell. If I am doing it correct. Holding the plug end to metal bold, while starting the engine. I used new plugs. The old ones did not look bad. I did discover a crack in the powerpack while making tour through the engine. It the crack Is around the back where the filler material that looks yellow in color, meets the black cover. I did flush the system with clean gas.

I do have the cylmer shop manual which indicates the stop button is wired through this powerpack. Also the netural switch does not seem to be working. The motor would start in gear if and when ever it starts again.

Thanks
Mike@didineedthat.com

I ordered a powerpack not really knowing that the original one bad, but it did have a crack in it. Do the magnets under the flywheel need to be checked also.

At top speed it did notice a high pitch whinie sound and would go away when I lowered the rpms but it was not bothersome just noticeable.
Also what are the sizes of props available and there purpose?

Mike@didineeedthat.com
