Diesel GenSet fuel issue

Any Diesel mechanics out there?

Just got the block back form the rebuild shop, Forum recommended Rotella, Thanks! Thats what I went with.

Engine is a Kubota EU300.

Next problem.
I do have th $55.00 service manual, in three languages, just in case, but is not very clear.

I have reassembled all to my best memory. If I give it a shot of fuel down the intake, fires right off, then off.

I assembled and reassembled the injector system a couple of times. I was a little unsure of the injetor pump but know I think I have it right. When I connect up the electric fuel pump, it pumps to the internal pump, no problem.
However, After a couple hours of struggling, I found the crack case has completely filled up with diesel!
So much for that oil change. Time for another. h well, only 1.5 quarts.

Any ideas what to look for? Is there a diaphragm internally? Don't see it in the shop manual.

Re: Diesel GenSet fuel issue

Two things come to mind, first timing the injector pump, if its out of time you may be injecting after the compression stroke and the diesel is washing the cylinder walls and going into the crank case.
Second, if you have not changed the o-rings on the injector pumps shaft and they are worn, they might allow diesel fuel to blow by into the crank case that way.
anyone else???

Be careful putting fuel down the intake. THat's a great way to get one ro "run away" on you.

How is the pump driven? Cam gear?

If so, you probably have a front seal out of it and it is dumping to the crankcase.

Get the pump serviced.

Re: Diesel GenSet fuel issue

Well, I think I have the diesel in the crank issue resolved. I believe the injector pump was not assembled correctly. However, Still cannot get it to fire on its own with a small prime. I believe it is one of two things or both:

1: Accoding to the owners manual, if you "hot wire" the fual pump to prime, you should get some fuel coming out of the return line, which I do not. Yes electric fuel pump is operational. Hi volume, low pressure?
2: When I turn it over with the starter trying to start, I do get a misty-fuel vapor coming from the exhaust like the fuel is there but the timing may be off. According to the manual there supposed to be timing marks on the flywheel and on the engine cover. There is on the flywheel, but nada on the shroud.

Any suggestions?

Re: Diesel GenSet fuel issue

After doing some extensive research (you tube, lol) watching diesel mechanics bleed tractor engines and related, I decided to retrace my priming procedure, (Still on the work bench, bolted down , of course)

Got the air, bubbling out of the fuel lines before the injector pump, then got a little bit of fuel squirting out of the fuel line, pre injector, leaving the electric fuel pump running for a little bit.

Fired right up! Runs like a new one!!!!! Smokey as hell in here though..cough..cough..lol

Patience, patience, patience

Thanks again to all for the advice.
