I currently run a 1987 34' Taiwanese trawler in the Great Lakes. It has a single 135 hp Perkins with about 1500 hours. I am looking at moving to a 38' Bayliner with twin 130 hp Mitsubishi (Chrysler) diesels. The boat is a 1986. There are, I am told, only 197 original hours on the engines of this 16 year old boat. Should this be a concern? Also, I am somewhat confused about Bayliners in that the models are called 3870's, 3818's and 3888's and sometimes all in the same year. Does anyone know what the difference is between these models? Is there one that is worse than the other? How do you tell them apart?

I haven't been a Bayliner dealer for over15 years but the last two numbers used to designate the engine type.
