And don't say 2 hp!

I know with the old Johnson motors the only difference between a 9.8 and 15 is the carb. I have a old '69 7.5 and was wondering if it can be upgraded to the higher horsepower. There are many interchangeable parts between the two, I was just wondering what the difference is.

The only difference between the Johnson 9.9 and 15 is the carb??? (Johnson never made a 9.8.)

Not so, Bob. There are other differences, depending on the year.

What '69 7.5 do you have?? Is it a Merc?? What gives you the idea that it is convertible to a 9.8?

I agree that the difference between that and a 9.8 is not 2HP.

Model 75, the only 7.5 HP Mercury built as far as I know in '69.

Yes, 9.9. Sorry about the 9,8:eek:

Being there are many interchangeable parts I thought in may be like the Johnson 9.9-15 change over.

The only difference I can find from parts list between a 1970 7.5 and the 9.8 is the carb. It'd be nice to get an extra 2HP.
