In a yamaha model E75BMHD. Checked at yamaha site and got that the B on the model number stands for inshore. If that is right. What would be the mayor difference between inshore and offshore. What would be the risk of using the inshore motor in a offshore application.
I imagine it has less sealing protection so in rough sea will get soaked easier:confused:
Thanks for reading and post

Re: difference between inshore and offshore

I don't know what Yamaha site you looked at or if you read something wrong, but you are way off. The 'b' after horsepower is the generation of that particular motor, yours is the second generation of the E75...you aren't in the USA are you? That motor isn't from(sold) here....inshore means freshwater by the way, offshore is saltwater, the differences would be the materials used to make and put together motor, saltwater gets extra annodes in block, stainless fasteners, etc, etc. Inshore used offshore will last....not very long.

You are right, I did read something wrong. I am in Puerto Rico. I had understood that inshore was close to the shore. I have to stop reading wikipedia.
Thank you both for the info.

Re: difference between inshore and offshore

Where I'm from, ( SW Fl. ) inshore is still salt water, close to land, ( in site of ) and offshore is no site of land, and " back water " fishing would be water separated from the main Gulf, Ocean, Bays, salt water as well as brackish water, ( mix of salt and fresh ), and " fresh water fishing " is lakes, ponds, and rivers not linked to the ocean or salt water "fresh water". Don't know the diff. in that engine but that's the scoop on terms. Oh, shaft length has nothing to do with it, different transome hights will need different Shaft lenghts. Can't put a short shaft engine on a 12 ft. Carolina skiff unless you cut the transom. Make a call, It's problely materials of parts in the engine, IMO.
