Re: Difference between props

although the Rev 4 may spin too fast for my 2005 350 mag.

I don't think it will. They've got a lot of blade area and a pretty high rake angle, plus the extra blade causes more drag. I like it on my boat (in a higher pitch)....you may too so long as you can turn 5000rpm or so.

Could you tell me what your setup is? (Power, weight, pitch, top speed etc..) I would like to have an idea what I can expect for slip numbers - will they improve with the Rev 4? I am currently experiencing about 12% slip with the Vengeance 14x19 with a 3500 lb dry weight and 4400 lb normal load.

12% slip is good for a v-hull boat. You might not better that. What I like is is they're "hooked up" at cruise. You can almost set the bow angle with the throttle through the midrange.

I'm at about 5400lbs, 425hp, at sea level the 23p runs about 64mph at 5000rpm cool/light. For a hot/heavy day the 21p is a good wheel. Now that I'm 4300' am only turning the 21p at 4900, 58mph.

There is a company called PropGods that has a propeller testing/exchange program and really good prices. I have personally used them.

Re: Difference between props

I finally splashed my boat for the first time this year and got right into trying out the two new props. The conditions were outstanding with 30 degree (celcius) weather and glass calm waters from one end of the lake to the other. Speeds were read from my new Raymarine Dragonfly GPS and Sonar unit.

The Rev 4 17" pitch gave me 5050 rpm at WOT with a top speed of 53 mph. Hole shot was incredible with almost no bow rise and I spun my son around in his seat the first time on take-off.

The Enertia 19" pitch gave me 4850 rpm at WOT with a top speed of 56 mph. Hole shot was laboured with a lot of bow rise and the tone of the motor even at cruising speeds sounded like it was under a greater load. The 19" Enertia was sluggish enough that I could probably use a 17" on my setup without over-revving.

Counter-intuitively, the Rev 4 17" gave me a better hole-shot and an additional 1 mph on the top end compared to the 19" Vengeance that came with the boat. Optimum trim for top speed was higher and I couldn't blow out on turns at high trim position the way I could with the 3-blade props.

I'll be sticking with the 17" Rev 4 although curiosity may force me to trade the 19" Enertia for one in 17" if anyone local is interested.:)

Re: Difference between props

The smaller Enertia will probably put you in the rev limiter. All else being equal, each inch of pitch is worth 150-200rpm.

The Rev is a newer design so no surprise it works. Looks like you're dialed in nicely. :)

Yes I am dialed in nicely and prop-shopping was last year's obsession:)
