I got rid of my 1985 70hp evinrude and picked me up a 1991 70 hp evinrude. The guy said it had been sitting for a year. I got it home and it started right up. It seemed to have a miss so I checked the compression,120 times 3. Got out the spark tester and it has a weak spark on all 3. The power pack looks new. any ideals on where to start?

Did you test on an inline spark tester? What was the gap set to that it would jump?

Assuming that your fuel system is ok, I would start with the plug leads and terminals, check the timing, check for loose or damaged wiring/connections of the ignition system, arcing, leads grounding out, etc....

Yes Chris I used a spark tester, I set it to 7/16 and you can barley see it. I have another boat with a 1983-70 hp sitting right next to it and I was showing my brother in law how much better the spark was on the 1983. Anyway, it will be getting dark here soon and then I'm gonna start it up and see if I can see any arcing. tomorrow I will check all the connections.
