Different water temps

We just finished installing a rebuilt marine 302 mated to
a Volvo 270 outdrive and installed fresh water cooling,
(closed system).

On muffs the right exhaust manifold runs at 150 degrees and the left runs at 140. Is this a problem or will it be different in the water under load than on muffs?
The readings were taken with an infrared temp gun.

Re: Different water temps

are they new manifolds as well with risers? if not a new engine should have new manis and risers. the manifolds are still raw water cooled. imho i wouldnt worry about that difference til it gets over the thermostat rated temp.

The manifolds and risers are not new, they were cleaned at a machine shop in town. They did a good job on the cleaning. I know that new would have been best, but sometimes you have to go with what you can afford and do the best you can.

I appreciate the response.

Re: Different water temps

It's very common for one manifold to run a little warmer than the other, especially on muffs. 10° is NOT a problem.

Thanks Don.

I tried to tell my hard headed cousin that it wasn"t a problem and to just put it in the water and run it if that was as hot as it got.

It is difficult to convince those that know everything that there isn't a problem when he thinks there is.

Ayuh,.......
Due to the fact that water Flows are Never Exactly Even, on both sides........
I've Never seen Manifolds Exactly the same Temp Either...........

I have seen 10 degree difference in the water leaving the thermostat housing itself on the way to the manifolds.

Re: Different water temps

Bondo has it pegged. On mine, water flows in from one direction into the thermostat...has to flow back to get to one manifold, so it will run a little warmer

Thanks. I appreciate the info and will pass it on to my hardheaded cousin. I don't know if he will believe it or not, but thats his problem.
