thanks for a great web site where i have learned lot.i recently picked up a used 1990 225 hp Johnson outboard, model #v225txess,to re replace my very tired tried 200 hp looper evenrude. The motor has even compression at 95 pounds per cyl, is that good enough ?,my 200 has uneven compression, so i thought this would be a .improvement

Hears the question , the thermostat were taken out of the motor because the thermostat housing threads were striped and the covers rounded out and glued on and i guess they could not hold pressure .the #s on the heads on the motor
are333809-3 the ones i bought on e bay are333809-4 and the other is 333809-3 are they all the same? I though they were the same until i saw the #s . the only difference i can see is the rubber grommet that seats the thermostat is different it seems larger and flatter. can i put these heads on without problems?

I pulled the heads off to day and they seems to be some carbon build up on the piston how should i remove it ?without hurting the cylinder walls ?

thank you John
