BB,

The Dihydrogen Monoxide in the Pacific here is warmer this year than I have ever seen in my unbelievably long data stream of 25 years or so . . .

Yes, you make sense Phil . . .

QC...this is off course a little....but my belief is...there is such an industry built around "anti-smoking" that the patient and the problem is no longer important.....the importance now lies in a lot of people in very well paid positions, running the anti-smoking lobby, protecting their butts to keep their positions...and that is the No1 aim of such Councils. Does that make sence?
Cheers
Phillip

The best part about the anti-smoking campaign? The tobacco companies have to PAY(in the US) for ads, that attack the very products they sell. And hte tobacco companies cannot put ads out there that promote their products. Yet every year, more people buy their product! I wish *I* had been there to think this stuff up. I'd like to have a product that I don't have to advertise for, and still get more sales every year. Pure genious!

For the record, I don't smoke, and never will. I just think this is incredible capitalism at work!

As for DHMO, that is awesome. I remember hearing about it a long time ago. Still funny.

I didn't think it was real at all, heck, everything that is a daily ritual has it in it.

For the smoking,,,,,,,,,tobacco compainies don't care if it is negative advertisement. Anyone with an addiction will light up after a commercial. It doesn't have to be a subliminal message but just a signal to engage the brain into lighting up. If a million smokers watch a commercial against tobacco, you got a million cigaretts that were just lit. If the ad was run 10 times during the day, that is 10 million cigs. Funny thing is the anti smokers don't have a clue that they are actually increasing the sale of tobacco due to these type ads.

Think about this, every since these type commercials have been running, has the tobacco growers asked for any assistance from our government? If they were that negative on the tabacco industry, you bet they would be screaming about their business going into the toilet.

Could be one of the many reasons our politicians take the commom citizen as being dumb and stupid.

I know the topic got changed slightly with the smoking thing. What is even more crazy is the number of govt programs funded with taxes from the cigarettes. If smoking were outlawed tomorrow the tax shortfalls to the gov would be unreal. So here we have a product and as SS pointed out the manufacturer is required to advertise against it's own product and it is in the governments best interest to have them sell as many cigarettes as they can to get maxiumum tax $$$. I'm getting a headache! I feel like we are living in an Aynn Rand novel! :^

While I knew the commercials weren't hurting the companies at all, I didn't realize that it directly helps them in that manner. Interesting.

I think the thing that helps the cigarette companies sales the most is the fact that nicotine is harder to get off of than crack.

It would be interesting to do a poll to see who fell for it.

And cigarettes are a long slow death whereas crack and heroin take their toll much quicker.

Rubber, I think anybody that is going to admit they fell for it has already voted. Most who might have fell didn't because they had already heard the joke. The new trick is to mistate the chemical designation so that you are actually asking about a poisonous subject and have them say "there is no threat water won't hurt you. Like say Hydrogendioxide. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaa
