Dinghy corner repair?

Hello all, bought a nice 8 foot sailing dinghy that was made from a kit. I plan to learn how to sail on it. My question is that on the transom there is a corner ( right angles) that has some separation of the fiberglass from the wood/plywood fore probably from a drop. The material, fiberglass is all there but is cracked and separating about 1.5 inches in two directions. The hull is painted.

So my question is can I simply "glue" the piece back down? 3m 5200? If not what should I use?
If it cannot be simply glued back down , how would I repair it?

Thanks Ike

Well If I understand correctly It sounds as if the wood used to renforce the tronsom is pulling from the fiberglass? My question would be how much do you want to spend on the repair? If doing it cheap is all you want I would use bondo-glass to fill the gap, then use a clamp to pinch it back together, then use the bondo-glass to do any shaping. It will dry in about 20 min, then sand and paint. The bondo since it has fiberlass mixed with it should add some strength to it. Other then that it would be new transom completly.

Ike I am not a glass specialist in any way in fact I like aluminum boats but if it was me I would grind down the glass in the area around the crack and reglass it going past the crack a good 3-5" .

Re: Dinghy corner repair?

Sorry to create some confusion but , if I understand the construction correctly, it has a plywood/wood core that has had a fiberglass outer shell added to it. That shell is now separating away from the wood. Probably dropped on the corner and the two materials flexed differently and separated. Much like an egg shell.

Good suggestions will probably grind away the loose fiberglass and rebuild the corner. Thanks again Ike:)
